Taking inspiration from abstract painter Lorna Crane (NSW), ink maker and artist Jason Logan and natural artist Nick Neddo, among others, our day will include ink and charcoal making explorations as well as clay making.

We’ll also make a simple vegetable soup in a mud oven, make and decorate clay seed bombs, and create a natural ink masterpiece.

  • BYO snacks, lunch and water ( homemade soup will be provided) *Please alert us to any food allergies!

  • Please wear close-toed shoes.

  • Overalls or old clothes are highly recommended

Make your own inks and brushes in this fun ...and messy!... exploration of the colour and history of earthy, natural inks.

Throughout the day you will refine your understanding about

  1. the science of pigments and paint,

  2. elements and principles of art such as colour, pattern, contrast, unity and texture, and

  3. the ways in which artists use these elements to compose artworks, through experimenting and practicing.

Participants will draw together all the day's experimenting to produce inks, charcoal sticks and drawing tools, and an artwork.

As well as ink making, we will get our hands into some clay to make seed bombs and ink pots to store your inks and drawing tools!

This session suits all ages, but spaces are limited.

We encourage all participants attending this session to:

  1. wear covered shoes

  2. wear old clothes as this activity gets messy!

  3. bring a water bottle

  4. bring your own lunch and a snack
